Looking for a hot new food spot in Seoul? These days, Samgakji is one of the city’s trendiest up-and-coming neighborhoods—packed with retro vibes, vintage cafés, and old-school restaurants that locals love.

One standout is Jaehoya, a Korean BBQ restaurant that specializes in premium "Han-don" (한돈)—Korean native pork raised with traditional herbal (oriental) ingredients for better flavor and quality. The pork here is 1+ grade, which means it’s exceptionally juicy, tender, and flavorful. For reference, Han-don is Korea’s version of premium domestic pork, much like Hanwoo is for Korean beef.

Forget Samgyeopsal—Try Moksal Instead

Most tourists in Korea order Samgyeopsal (pork belly) by default—but here’s a tip from a local: Try Moksal (목살), also known as Boston Butt. It's less fatty, meatier, and full of rich pork flavor. Just look at the photo—doesn't it look like a beef steak? That’s a double portion of Moksal, and yes, we finished it all!

Free Side Dishes? Yes, Please!

As is custom in Korean restaurants, your main dish comes with a generous spread of free side dishes (called Banchan). At Jaehoya, we were served several handmade sides, including a standout:
Buchu Kongnamul Geotjeori (부추콩나물 겉절이) — a spicy, tangy quick-pickled mix of chives and bean sprouts made fresh daily by the owner. It paired perfectly with the grilled pork.

How to Grill Moksal Like a Pro 🔥

  1. Preheat the grill well.
  2. Sear both sides first to lock in the juices.
  3. Once browned, slice the meat into bite-sized chunks and finish cooking all sides until golden and slightly crispy.

Pro tip: If you cook the pork all the way through before slicing, and then let the red parts finish on the grill, you get that perfect combo of juicy inside and crispy outside.

Check out the photo above—that's the magic right there. And the taste? 🔥
Absolutely delicious. Even my son, who usually doesn’t enjoy pork, kept saying how amazing the Moksal was!

I can confidently say: this was the best grilled pork I’ve had in Seoul.
If you’re planning a Korean BBQ night in Samgakji, Jaehoya is a must-visit.
